How heavy is 25 pounds of rock?
The commonly applied BLM casual-use cap is 25 pounds a day plus one piece. People picture a small sack. A full 5-gallon bucket of dense rock is often already there.
- Agate, jasper, and basalt run heavy. A bucket you can barely lift with one hand is not a “light day.”
- Rhyolite from the Thomas Range is the same problem. One good crystal can be the extra piece. The sack of country rock still counts.
- Sunstone float and geode halves add up the same way. Screening a hill does not create a second cap.
Weigh it at the truck if you are close. The yearly line is 250 pounds per person. Selling any of it leaves casual use. Numbers and the citation: BLM collecting limits in Utah.
