Utah OTC vs draw tags

Last checked October 2026. Dates and fees live in the current DWR guidebook.

A hunting license and a permit for a specific hunt are not the same thing. People mix them up the same way they mix BLM and SITLA.

Over-the-counter

Some licenses and a limited set of hunts can be bought without winning a drawing, while they last, and only if you meet residency and hunter-education rules. If DWR calls it limited-entry, it is not OTC.

Draw

You apply in the published window, spend bonus points if the species uses them, and wait. This page does not reprint hunt tables or tell you which unit to apply for. Use wildlife.utah.gov.

A tag is not permission to cross private or SITLA. Check the owner layer the same way you would for rocks.

Informational only — not legal advice. Confirm with the managing agency before you dig or hunt.
