About
What this site is
Public Land Field Guide (also called Land Status Guide) is an independent site about who owns the ground before a bucket comes out. It starts with Utah and the west desert, then the nearby public land in Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado.
It is not the Bureau of Land Management, SITLA, Utah State Parks, the National Park Service, the Forest Service, or Utah DWR. This site does not issue permits, sell tags, book trips, or speak for any agency.
How the pages are written
- Land status and the published rule come first. These are not secret GPS lists.
- Named beds and parks get the cap, the office, and the overlay that changes the answer: wilderness, monument, state park, mining claim, school trust.
- Gear pages recommend one item for a job that already failed in the field — goatheads, basalt, a 100-degree cab — not a catalog.
- Every rules page tells you to confirm with the managing office. Rules and maps change.
Who runs it
The site is written from Cedar City, Utah, by someone who checks land status before collecting, hunting, and working on public land in the Intermountain West. Field notes are the writer’s. The legal limits are the agencies’.

How the site is paid for
The guides are free. Some gear pages link to retailers. If you buy through those links, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Paid links are disclosed on the page and on the affiliate disclosure. No one pays to hide a land-status problem.
